Jesuit Refugee Service – JRS Romania
The Father General visited the Jesuit Refugee Service Team, accompanied by the Assistant Father, the Regional Director of the EUM, and residents of the Bucharest area. After a presentation of the services provided by Project Manager Bianca Albu and General Manager Catalin Albu, employees from Romania, Ukraine, Syria, and a Rwandan employee who has become a Romanian citizen were introduced. , spoke in a very concise style. .
They all emphasized shared services that can change the lives of so many. Father General emphasized the importance of living a life of complete self-giving and service to others. He encouraged everyone to continue to be generous and “not just do your job, but give your life.”
In 2023, JRS Romania implemented 20 projects providing comprehensive support to refugees from Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and other countries, providing services to individuals regardless of their legal status.
The team has grown to 180 people and is now able to promote a variety of initiatives. More than 25,000 beneficiaries benefit from services and support essential to improving their quality of life and integrating into society.
Services provided include “emergency” services. That is, food and shelter to ensure access to a basic standard of living. Distribution of cash, financial support to maintain independence, provision of medical and psychological support, provision of complete health and mental health services. Formal education was provided through 25 partner schools and kindergartens.
