Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The popularity of Ayurveda has seen a remarkable recovery since COVID-19, with the number of people seeking Ayurvedic treatments increasing four-fold in the past four years.
In 2020, 14,723 patients were treated at the Government Ashtanga Ayurveda College and Hospital in the city. By 2023, this number had skyrocketed to 57,294, reflecting a significant increase in public trust in Ayurveda and awareness of its benefits. With government support, this traditional healthcare system has further strengthened. There has also been a significant increase in cancer patients seeking Ayurvedic treatment.
In 2020, 73 cancer patients sought Ayurvedic treatment. This number will surge to 526 by 2023. University Dean Dr Ajit Pal Singh Chouhan highlighted that the number of patients seeking Ayurvedic treatment is increasing every year and attributed this trend to effective treatment of severe illnesses and speedy recovery of patients.
Meanwhile, Head of Cancer Department Dr Akhilesh Bhargava highlighted the comprehensive care provided at the surgery department, which includes various types of therapy like medication, yoga, diet, sattvajaya, addiction treatment etc. This holistic approach is helping an increasing number of cancer patients visit the hospital every year.
