NorthPointe Health & Wellness Center celebrated the completion of a 30-month campus expansion project with a special ceremony on May 18. The ceremony celebrated the $90 million in renovations made possible through an investment from Hennepin County.
Speakers including leaders and partners from North Point and Hennepin County, as well as elected officials at the local, state and federal levels, shared messages of partnership, gratitude and pride.
“It is an honor to help realize the vision this region has sought and created for itself,” Hennepin County Council Chairwoman Eileen Fernando said in her speech.
The ceremony also celebrated a historic leadership transition: NorthPoint CEO Stella Whitney West spoke about her planned retirement on June 30 and welcomed Kimberly Speights as her successor.
“I leave NorthPointe with a legacy of leadership and incredible staff who are committed to advancing our mission,” Whitney West said. “I have no doubt that NorthPointe will continue its tradition of honoring our history and creating our future.”
Speights, who has served as NorthPointe’s chief operating officer of human resources services since 2014, will officially begin his role on June 17, coinciding two weeks with Whitney West’s appointment. The leadership transition honors NorthPointe’s 55-year history of strong leaders committed to the health and empowerment of the community.
The center serves more than 30,000 residents annually, providing essential medical, dental, behavioral health and human services. NorthPointe is operated through a partnership between the Hennepin County Commission and the NorthPointe Community Board, which is made up of NorthPointe patients and people who live or work in the community.
After a 30-month campus expansion project, NorthPoint has now achieved the following:
• Increased access to quality, innovative health and wellness services.
• Expanded campus for clinics and programs.
• Increased opportunities for employment and economic development.
• Improving conservation outcomes through infiltration gardens (with support from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization).
Features of the completed campus will also include:

In addition to expanding its capacity to comprehensively serve North Minneapolis and the surrounding areas, NorthPoint worked with Hennepin County Facility Services, AECOM, JE Dunn, KMS Construction and TRI-Construction to ensure continuity of service throughout the construction project.
