Located in the bustling Jinjiang district of Chengdu, China Nihao Hotel is set to open as a boutique yet affordable hotel aimed at a younger generation of international travellers who prioritise convenience but are also keen on contemporary design. With cinematic décor, the hotel’s name is a Chinese greeting for “hello” and a warm, welcoming feel permeates the entire interior. Covered in cultural symbols and painted in distinctive bold colours, the hotel is Tokishu Design Group We have created a hotel that is truly intended to welcome all guests.

From the moment you step inside, you’ll be greeted by a space that embodies China’s journey to blend tradition with an evolving modern spirit. Vermilion Zhou Design Group has created a graphic fusion of China’s cultural heritage through the use of color, typography, signage and symbolism, an approach the hotel playfully calls “punk wellness.”
Guests can enjoy a variety of wellness amenities but must check in themselves at the self-check-in area in the hotel lobby.

The atmosphere is more like a restaurant or cafeteria than a formal hotel, albeit with a high level of design detail. Each room exudes an upscale feel, with chic choices in lighting, seating, signage and tile work. Designed to accommodate the limited staffing of a budget hotel while keeping staff interaction to a minimum, the hotel instead focuses on providing guests with amenities such as meeting areas and workspaces, reflecting the tourist rather than vacationer crowd the hotel is targeting.

Guests will notice a repeating motif of the number eight – also known as the “gourd”, this traditional Chinese symbol represents blessings, good fortune and safety for travellers.
The wide-open accordion doors offer views of the bustling streetscape of Donghuazheng Street in Chengdu’s Jinjiang District, providing an interactive experience during your stay at NI HAO Hotel.
Guests are greeted by numerous signboards bearing slogans that are a “very Chinese expression,” subverting the design of traditional reception and lobby areas.

This hotel prioritizes simplicity and affordable comfort over luxury.
The hotel’s public areas and rooms are designed to encourage intentional and spontaneous interactions, making every “hello” feel personal and meaningful. What’s interesting is the designer’s declaration that “extroverts and introverts alike can find a comfortable space to settle in if they return to their basic accommodation needs.”

Vermilion Zhou Design Group integrates cultural elements with traditional symbols and motifs expressed in a graphic way, taking a playful approach across the walls of public spaces, in this case the guest rooms.
