The first immersive theater experience of its kind on mental health at Lincoln Center is presented by the New York State Child Center.

New York City is known for its bold theatrical productions, so it’s no surprise that one of the city’s leading nonprofits would be inspired to put on a show of its own.
For 70 years, the Child Center of New York has stood as a pillar of support for children and families facing some of the toughest challenges, and for one night only, a groundbreaking work focused on mental health will be published for the first time.

Outside, The production, a collaboration with SoulHouse, is an immersive theater experience that will debut at Lincoln Center’s Clark Studio Theater on May 7 and serve as the launch of New York’s Community Innovation Center’s Child Center.
“Outside In” is a first-of-its-kind immersive theatrical experience focused on mental health.

The show, which will be shown three times a night at Lincoln Center on May 7, will follow 18-year-old Maya as she navigates the modern challenges of New York City.

The show is part of the kickoff of a $50 million capital campaign for New York’s bold new Innovation Center Child Center. The center’s purpose is to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty, broken mental health systems, and other universal challenges through the power of creativity, technology, science, art, entrepreneurship, and community.
The New York Child Center wants to combine the science of play to develop innovative mental health services and programs.
Suicide is now the second leading cause of death for teens in New York City. Because of this urgency, the Child Center hopes to raise awareness of the issue and funds to continue its work, which is more important than ever serving 58,000 children and families each year.
