BRECKSVILLE, Ohio – A Brecksville resident who opened a Pilates studio in downtown Cleveland more than five years ago has opened a second location in downtown Brecksville.
Callie Yadgar, owner of Callie’s Pilates, began hosting classes April 1 at 8931 Brecksville Road, behind The Vertical Runner and next to Third Federal Savings & Loan.
“I’m excited to be in Brecksville,” Yadgar told cleveland.com. “I’m happy to see downtown being transformed.”
Several new small businesses have recently opened in the downtown commercial district on Brecksville Road, just south of Ohio Highway 82, including Apricot Lane Boutique, Barber Dale’s and Blue Habanero Street Tacos & Tequila.
Carrie’s Pilates just installed signage on the building on Monday (June 17), and the city is planning a grand opening ceremony, possibly sometime in July, Yadgar said.
“We will have a grand opening event the same day as the ribbon cutting,” Yadgar said.
Yadgar describes Pilates as “a total-body exercise that tightens loose areas and releases tight areas.” But Carrie’s version of Pilates is a little different.
For example, Callie’s Pilates limits class sizes to five people so everyone can get the guidance and attention they need—and it also makes it easier for students to form relationships with each other.
“I would go to class alone and come out with my friends,” Yadgar said.
Callie’s Pilates also organises special events such as high teas at fashionable locations and themed parties at the studio.
Yadgar grew up in Eastlake and completed her Pilates training in Scottsdale, Arizona, before moving to Orange County, California for five years.
She and her husband, Nick Yadgar, then returned to the Cleveland area, and Yadgar opened the first Callie’s Pilates in October 2018 at the Metropolitan at the 9, a hotel on East 9th Street in Cleveland.
Yadgar’s studio has thrived through the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to small class sizes that allow plenty of room for safe social distancing.
Yadgar said she just hired eight Pilates instructors. Finding instructors isn’t as easy in Greater Cleveland as it is in California, and many instructors in the area are new to the job.
“We’re training a growing number of Pilates instructors in Cleveland,” Yadgar said.
