Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II – Senua’s psychosis
When we first had the idea of telling the story of characters experiencing mental illness, we immediately knew we had a responsibility to understand this subject thoroughly. With this intention in mind, we began a collaboration with Professor Paul Fletcher, Professor of Health Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. This gave people like Recovery College East and Senua real lived experience of seeing and hearing things others didn’t, and they had their own beliefs about the world. What began as an exercise in a desire to learn quickly devolved into a creative collaboration, with the candor, honesty, and enthusiasm of our collaborators that not only authentically depicts Senua’s experience, but also ours. gave us the opportunity to enhance her character, her world, and her story.
in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, I was so honored to hear from fans that Senua’s journey helped them understand mental illness a little more. For some, it helped them understand their own experiences. For others, it helped them understand what their loved one was going through. And for many, it helped build empathy for the millions of people who struggle with mental health issues every day.
