HYDERABAD: At the launch ceremony of two books in the ‘Moments to Memories’ series, ‘Saving the Journey of Parenthood’ and ‘Saving the Footprints of Life’ by Pallavi Jawar, a Goa-born spiritual Dr. Shubha Vilas, a leading expert and educationist, shared his profound words. As attendees of the event, we had the privilege of connecting with him and delving deeper into spirituality and strategies for dealing with mental health challenges.
Dr. Shubha Vilas, known for his motivational stories and knack for guiding individuals through adversity, shared his personal sources of motivation by saying, Seeing the tangible benefits of my teachings is extremely fulfilling and keeps me going. ”
Commenting on the intersection of spirituality and mental health, Dr. Shuba says: “In Vedic culture, spirituality is intricately intertwined with the mind. Concepts such as ‘mandir’ and ‘mantra’ emphasize the importance of the mind in spiritual discourse. Approaching spirituality as a holistic lifestyle, rather than simply a religious pursuit, inherently involves spiritual well-being. Embracing yoga and spirituality holistically strengthens many aspects of life, including physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, and financial aspects. ”
When asked about navigating spirituality amidst the rigors of modern life, he outlined: Access to both allows individuals to embark on a spiritual quest with clarity and practicality. ”
Addressing the widespread problem of depression, Dr. Shuva advocated seva or selfless service as a powerful treatment. He said, “As the world becomes increasingly consumed by egocentrism, engaging in selfless acts of service is a powerful antidote to depression. Encourage individuals, especially young people, to participate in community service. This increases feelings of gratitude and promotes emotional healing.”
In response to the burdens of modern life, Dr. Shuba advocated daily introspection and the practice of mindfulness. He suggested, “Devoting 30 minutes to an hour each morning to introspection, meditation, or reading will develop a sense of inner peace and preparedness to face the challenges of the day.”
Regarding the impact of social media, Dr. Shuba offered a pragmatic approach and advised:
