I didn’t know all of the resources UofT had to offer until my fourth and final year. Treatment is expensive and can seem like a luxury for full-time college students.
My experience at the Health and Wellness Center:
It took me a while to figure out how to navigate the website, but I called the Health and Welfare Center and was able to get an appointment the same day. As I talked about in a previous blog post, I struggle with anxiety, and working with a counselor I was able to create a plan to start working on my anxiety. I met with her counselor every two weeks and the sessions were very helpful.
The Health and Wellness Student Life site has multiple mental health resources for students. You can schedule an appointment with a clinician to discuss your options and find one that’s a better fit for you.
You must be a full-time or part-time student at the university to access the resources. We have alternative resource providers for students located outside of the country.
Some of the mental health services they offer are:
- Same day counseling
- For those who need to consult someone immediately and want to make a treatment plan. During your counseling appointment, you can work with your provider to discuss your needs and figure out your next steps.
- drug therapy
- Drug treatment options.
- Group therapy based on scientific evidence
- Group-based therapy to improve anxiety and depression – ranges from 6 to 8 weeks.
In addition to mental health services, the Health and Wellness Center provides access to medical and dental services, reproductive health care, nutritional counseling, and immunizations.
To make an appointment, please call or visit our Health and Wellness Center during business hours.
