Edmonds, WA, August 18, 2023— Renew Medical, a new naturopathic wellness center, aims to help individuals understand their health needs and make choices that maximize physical performance and mental well-being, Aug. 17 We opened for business on Thursday.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday morning with delicious food and refreshments to celebrate the two-year anniversary.
“The Chamber of Commerce does a really great job in that they’re very passionate about supporting Edmonds businesses and building relationships and making connections. Ribbon cuttings like this are great for that. What a great way to do that.” Caitlin Huber, events and projects coordinator for the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, told the Lynwood Times.
Renew offers a variety of services tailored to each client’s individual needs, including nutritional therapy, body sculpting, biofeedback, facials, integrative medicine, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, acne treatment, IV therapy, pain management, and more. We offer customization.
The clinic is owned and operated by a husband and wife team, Dr. Emma Corvila Doody and Dr. Don Doody. A second doctor, Jason Allen, also joined the team a few months ago.
Dr. Doody is a board-certified naturopathic physician who earned his doctorate from Bastyr University. She is a Navy nurse veteran, having worked in the emergency department for 15 years and as a nurse for over 30 years. In 2003, she founded and operated a concierge medical practice in Edmonds.
Emma’s husband Don, 57, who financed the project, will run the clinic as general manager, drawing on his years of experience as a former executive at two large companies that were eventually sold as private equity. It is in charge.
In May 2020, the world was experiencing a shortage of ventilators due to the onset of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak and its subsequent impact on emergency rooms and ICUs. Many companies, including General Motors, have shifted to making ventilators. Don’s company designed the electronics that went into his 30,000 ventilators that GM was manufacturing. He retired in December 2021.
As Don prepared for early retirement, Emma expressed an interest in starting her own business, having worked in the emergency room for the past 25 years and quickly becoming burnt out. But her determination to step away from working in a hospital was further strengthened when Don broke several of her ribs in a fall and punctured her lung, nearly killing her. .
“It was after he almost died…I was in the waiting room and he wasn’t getting any better.” Dr. Doody said. “I was disappointed in his recovery, so I gave him the option of continuing with conventional treatment, because that’s what he was used to, or because as a naturopath, I knew It integrates being there.”
While caring for her injured husband, Dr. Doody started thinking about holistic health and why it wasn’t being promoted in the current health care system. She thought there could be a niche market for businesses that promote an individual’s overall health.
“Private insurance companies are bad at wellness care, but they’re good at ER care, and they’re good at the disease care part of the system.” Don said. “We focus on health and medical care as a consumer-oriented service aimed at educated people who are interested in looking good, feeling good, and ultimately living their best lives.” I decided to.”
According to Dr. Doody, the biggest difference between practicing medicine in a hospital or a private practice is that while working in a hospital, he never had to adhere to “routine care,” but he did what was right for the patient. He says that he can put into practice what he believes. Customized to fit the unique needs of the individual.
Don’s definition of wellness is: “Getting your body into the best health possible, doing the things you want to do, meeting the people you want to meet, and living the best life you can.”
Renew opened fairly quickly, taking only about six months from concept to opening. After considering several locations, the couple ultimately settled on 190 West Dayton Street because it had ample parking, was away from traffic, and was close to the nearby Edmonds waterfront.
Dr. Jason Allen joined the staff a few months ago to help alongside Dr. Doody.
With about 80% of its roughly 500 customers classified as relapses, Renew is still considering whether it wants to grow and expand its business. But for now, Don Doody said the focus is on perfecting day-to-day operations. After an internal analysis, Renew found that he could handle up to 60 patients a day, but now he is processing an average of 15 patients a day.
Ruth Horst, 90, one of Renew’s oldest customers, told the Lynwood Times that she started seeing Dr. Doody a year ago after suffering from chronic bladder infections. Her doctor puts her on antibiotics, but within a few months her infection returns. After her 30 days at Renew Medical, Ruth’s bladder infection completely disappeared, and she has continued to improve her symptoms ever since.
“I immediately felt energized and knew this must work.” Horst told the Linwood Times. “I feel like Renew has improved my quality of life.”
