A board-certified dermatologist weighed in on best practices to keep your skin in top condition.
She said her anti-aging advice is even more effective and easier than using sunscreen.
New York-based Dr. Rachel Nazarian said avoiding the sun’s potentially harmful rays is the key to youthful skin.
But while many people are turning to sunscreen, she offered an easier alternative to protecting the body’s largest organ.
Buying SPF for everyday wear can be expensive.
But the perfect skin care solution may already be sitting in your closet.

“Hazmat gear,” she said. “Sunscreens are great, but they leave so much room for user error.
“You don’t apply enough, you miss out on a spot, and you have to reapply.
“Wearing sunscreen clothing makes everything easier and often more effective, and can prevent much of the aging that occurs over time.
“Especially for athletic enthusiasts, outdoor enthusiasts, children or beach lovers.

“Getting into the habit of wearing a sun shirt and sunscreen clothing can reduce your overall and cumulative UV exposure and protect areas that are often overlooked,” she added.
She listed some points that are often overlooked when using topical SPF as a first line of defense.
“Shoulders, back, forearms and many other parts of the body,” she says.
“Thankfully, fashion has also evolved and you can find great styles with sun-protective clothing.”

Dr. Nazarian also recommended a more proactive approach to achieving healthier skin.
“Laser, laser, laser,” she said.
“It may not be the first thing on your list, but at some point in your life, collagen loss is too rapid to be compensated for with topical ingredients.
“Innovations in laser technology now allow the skin to produce more natural collagen in a safe and effective way.”
