CHENNAI: Avadi’s Mittanamari was murdered on Sunday night by one of its early residents, Ayurvedic doctor Shivan Nar, 72, and his wife Prasanna Kumari, 62, a retired teacher, in their clinic. He was a witness to a double murder case. T. Magesh (20), a resident of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, was arrested on suspicion of murdering the police. Police tracked Sivan Nair using the mobile phone he left at the crime scene. Police said Shivan Nair is an ex-serviceman and the couple lived near Gandhi Nagar Main Road in Mittanamari. They ran a clinic adjacent to their home for nearly 30 years, receiving patients from all over the city. Although the couple lived in a close-knit neighborhood, none of their neighbors heard their screams at the time of the murder. A patient who arrived at the clinic around 6pm found Sivan Nair in a pool of blood outside the balcony. His wife was found dead inside her house. He alerted other locals and the couple’s son Hari Om. Muttapudupet police have registered a case of murder. They sent the body to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem and picked up a mobile phone from the crime scene, which linked them to Magesh. Hari Om, a practicing Ayurvedic doctor himself, also raised suspicions against Magesh, saying his mother had complained to him about the youth two weeks ago. Hari Om told police that his mother had told them about Magesh and that Magesh was disturbing them by visiting them. Asking for money at odd hours. Magesh, who works at a hardware store in KK Nagar, was undergoing treatment for a stomach ailment along with his wife since 2019. “In the past two weeks, Prasanna Kumari has become suspicious of her own actions. “She did not allow him inside her house and asked him to collect medicines from outside her house. ,” said Abadi Deputy Police Commissioner Ayman Jamal. Police said on Sunday night that Magesh got into an argument with Prassana Kumari and subsequently killed her. When Shivan Nair heard his wife’s screams and rushed in, he also killed her. He then fled in a motorcycle taxi. The incident was captured on a surveillance camera. Magesh told police that he was repeatedly insulted and irritated in front of other patients. Magesh is in judicial custody. His neighbor Sreekumar said the couple were soft-spoken and always ready to help locals.
