Accra, June 10, GNA – Ghanaian singer, Enam, has said most songs released by artistes today are mediocre and lack spiritual value.
Enam, who recently released the single “Libation,” believes music is one of the most powerful ways to connect with others in different ways.
“Try watching a movie without music or sound or going to church without listening to music. Music is there to trigger something deep within us. What we call spirituality, when we get in touch with it, we discover how to bend the world to our will. This bending can manifest in many ways, including the ability to influence our own lives,” the singer explained.
According to Enam, her genre, Afro-spiritual, was influenced by the “hajivodusi” (singing priestesses) of the “Ye” shrine in the Volta Region.
“Music influences our consciousness beyond the visible and its influence can be both beneficial and harmful. Enam stressed that a musical style without depth will not have the intended effect on the human soul.
“I see music as a medium for the spiritual life. Music has become so much a part of everyday life that I feel most songs lack spirituality.”
“Some artists only care about the rhythmic aspects of the music and how danceable it is, and forget about the spiritual aspects,” Enam said in an interview.
The powerhouse singer further stated that his aim in exploring the Afro-spiritual genre is to inspire people with Ghana’s indigenous spirituality, which was one of his reasons for pursuing a career in music.
“There is depth to Ghanaian music, especially when you study how sound has been used in indigenous spiritual practices. Everything has meaning and purpose,” she noted.
Following the success of his six-track EP featuring award-winning highlife artiste, Akwaboah, Enam is on a mission to revive interest in the wisdom hidden within traditional music, and “Libation” is a perfect example of this.
Her new song, “Libation,” is accompanied by mesmerizing video that evokes a sense of oneness with the earth and water, and at its core, a sense of oneness with spirituality and the world we live in.
