“When I wake up in the morning, I don’t want to jump out of bed right away…” a pajama-clad Goldie Hawn explains to the camera on Instagram. With her famous blonde curtain bangs and signature tan, the 78-year-old has become a compelling wellness influencer, guiding her 3.7 million followers through a mindful morning routine.
There are two things she swears by for her mental health. The first one is breathing. “I’m breathing so hard,” she says. “Before you jump out of bed, you just want to take a breath. Inhale, hold for about 5 seconds, then exhale. After the third time, [breath], my eyes suddenly open. ” Both slowing your breathing and holding your breath can stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system. The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for the rest and digest mode and ultimately calms us down. So Horn is on to something.
When her eyes open, Ms. Horn performs a series of stretches, bending over and stretching her back. After that, realize what you are grateful for. “She’s the only three things I’m grateful for. She’s the only three things,” she says, referring to her family as her one. “When you wake up, you think, ‘Today is going to be a really good day, no matter what, despite the problems, despite the sadness, despite the fears, this is going to be a really good day.
