HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Mira Vista staff and management showed their continued support for mental health Thursday.
As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, the organization hung awareness flags at its Holyoke facility.
“We raise the green flag in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month and unite as a beacon of hope and solidarity,” said hospital administrator Sherry Zimmerman. “Our Dream Team is also our Green Team, a force dedicated to breaking down barriers, eradicating stigma and promoting understanding and support for mental health.”
According to the CDC:
- More than four in 10 high school students, or 42%, felt persistent sadness or hopelessness in 2021, and nearly a third, or 29%, experienced a decline in their mental health.
- In 2021, more than one in five students, or 22%, seriously considered attempting suicide, and one in 10 attempted suicide.
- Almost half (45%) of LGBQ+ students seriously considered attempting suicide in 2021, far more than straight students.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health has taken a more prominent place in conversations about a person’s complete health and wellness.
