Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput are one of the standout couples in Bollywood and are known for their enduring bond. Married for nine years, they have two children together – daughter Meesha and son Zain.
Despite getting married at a young age of 21, Mira is the custodian of their children, while Shahid spoils them with amazing gifts. As she reflects on their journey, Mira also shares Shahid’s personal growth over the years.
In an interview with Film Companion magazine, Mira Kapoor spoke about parenting: “It’s very easy to spoil a child. I think it takes a whole village to raise a child. You have grandparents, uncles, aunties, everybody. It’s a balancing act. It always will be there. I think I’m generally the bad guy. Not giving kids what they want, not telling them bedtime, making them do their homework, teaching them their times tables, I think it’s good for fathers to spoil their kids a little bit and buy them cool shoes, but I’m like, ‘Don’t buy them those shoes.’ And the father is like, ‘I don’t want my kid to be like that,’ and I’m like, ‘Look, don’t do that when I’m giving you these shoes.'”
Shahid Kapoor, who is 14 years older than his wife, has often acknowledged the positive impact that Mira has had on his life since their marriage. Speaking about this, Mira Rajput said that she had always wanted a family and now she has one. However, she also said that she has noticed a mental change in the actor.
She added, “He’s always needed a lot of warmth, and that’s how it came out. The other part of him that I’ve seen really evolve is his spiritual side. It’s something that he’s really honed and worked on, and it’s his own personal journey, but I think that’s reflected in the way he expresses himself, his presence, and the way he conducts himself very differently. A very warm, loving, empathetic side of him has come out. He’s always been an empath, but he just didn’t have anyone to empathize with.”
In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Shahid Kapoor said, “I was 33, 34 and very lonely. I would win awards, come home and share the awards with my dog. I was like, ‘What is life? Is there any point in this?’ I wanted to share my life with someone. I was single, happy, independent and doing well in my career but I felt lonely. I wanted a family of my own, I wanted company. I didn’t mind meeting someone to settle down with. I didn’t care how we met. And so the arranged marriage began.”
In the same interview, he also said, “The truth of the matter is that this marriage is about a man who messed up and a woman who came in to fix him. So the rest of his life is going to be a journey to get back on his feet and become a decent person. That’s life.”
