BENGALURU: The Ayurvedic and Health Ministry on Tuesday released a 6,500-page dictionary of Ayurvedic terminology.
To mark the 10th International Yoga Day, the ministry launched “Yogotsava”, a 10-day programme to educate people on the benefits of yoga and empower communities through yogic practices and principles.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao released the poster and a five-volume dictionary of Sanskrit Ayurvedic terminology translated into English and Kannada from the 15th-century Ayurvedic palm manuscripts. The dictionary lists the causes of all human diseases as detailed in Ayurveda.
The ministry has also launched a dedicated Yogotsava website to encourage further registrations.
The initiative, promoted as ‘#Yogotsava’, has brought together various government departments, shopping malls, yoga associations, educational institutions, social welfare organisations and the Bangalore Apartment Federation.
Around 400,000 members of government organisations and Indian Scout Guides will also be conducting yoga across the state as part of Yogotsava.
“This should not be limited to a one-day programme. People should incorporate yoga into their daily lives,” Rao said.
Programs featured in Yogotsava
Yoga for 664 public high school dormitory students.
Yoga training for Anganwadi teachers and students and in orphanages.
Wellness programs for seniors featuring educational sessions as well as yoga, Ayurveda and health screenings.
A massive radio campaign was broadcast as a 15-minute programme on All India Radio.
A special program on Ayush TV.
