LAGOS, Nigeria — Millers for Nutrition, a food industry-led group, has launched an initiative in Nigeria aimed at improving access to nutritious food in the country.
Millers for Nutrition aims to make fortifying staple foods easier and more rewarding for millers responsible for processing flour, edible oils and rice. With implementation in eight countries, the group hopes to reach one billion people with enriched flour, rice and cooking oil by 2026.

Flour millers who join the group will receive free technical support to facilitate product fortification. This includes customized technical training and business advice, product testing support, and access to online tools and resources that can also help reduce compliance risk and improve production efficiency.
The group was launched in Nigeria during the 9th Agri-Food Nigeria Exhibition and Summit held in Lagos from March 25-27.
The 2024 MFI Award winners were also celebrated during the conference, recognizing millers and brands who are leading the way in fortifying their products with essential vitamins and minerals.
Winners include Crown Flour Mills Ltd., Flour Mills of Nigeria PLC, Raffles Oil LFTZ Enterprises and Dangote Sugar Refinery PLC. Other companies recognized at the ceremony include Dufil Prima Foods and Wacot Big Bull, which was recognized as a pioneering brand of fortified rice.
Millers for Nutrition includes partners across the food fortification value chain, including founding partners BASF, DSM-firmenich, Mühlenchemie/SternVitamin, Piramal, BioAnalyt and Sanku.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is providing strategic inputs and investments to support the creation of the coalition.
