Mighty Pilates, a Pilates studio on Weyburn Avenue, officially opened its Westwood Village location in January.
The studio is part of the Mighty Pilates studio chain that spans Southern California and the Bay Area and offers both in-person and online classes. The new Westwood location is his sixth location in the chain and also the largest, with the closest location being in Santa Monica.
Mighty Pilates is a combination of Classical Pilates and Reformer Pilates performed on special Reformer equipment, offering classes to suit all experience levels. Palmer Dean, a second-year communications major, said the studio’s ability to cater to all levels makes Pilates feel more approachable, and Mighty Pilates’ small class sizes and instructors’ attention to detail make her feel more approachable. , added that it provides a good experience for beginners.
Some students see the new studio as a chance to try Pilates for the first time, and fourth-year psychology student Olivia Delfs said she initially opted for Pilates because of the novelty and the studio’s 10% UCLA student discount. He said he was attracted to.
“I had never tried Pilates before. I always wanted to try it because of what I saw on social media and what I saw other people do,” Delfs said. “Then she found out through her sorority that there was a discount just for being a UCLA student, so she wanted to give it a try.”
Maya Salamon, an instructor at Mighty Pilates Westwood who originally worked at the chain’s Santa Monica location, said one of the best parts of working at the new Westwood location is working with beginners and building a consistent clientele. He said it was possible. She added that she wanted to work at Westwood because everyone who comes to the studio is new to the exercise format, which means she can learn and grow along with them. .
“I want to progress with them,” Salamon said. “If you get to know your client and they’re with you from day one, it’s a lot easier than having a mix of people at different levels.”
Mighty Pilates Westwood studio manager Gina Friedenberg said the new location is designed to serve both UCLA students and local residents. The studio offers classes from early morning until late evening so students and professionals can find lessons that fit their schedules.
“We are really trying to cater to students and their schedules and make it a place for both the student and professional communities,” Friedenberg said.
“One of the greatest strengths of our Westwood store is our clientele from a variety of regions and backgrounds,” said Cricket Wardein, founder and owner of Mighty Pilates. She added that students would come to the studio, tell her friends about it, and come back again.
Mighty Pilates also allows students to relax and escape stressors, Wardane said, adding that the studio aims to help students focus on themselves.
Beyond its students, Mighty Pilates aims to provide a sense of community throughout Westwood, Wardane said.
“I always felt like there was a community here,” Wardane said. “My goal is to create a great place that fosters a sense of community that you don’t really have in the workplace. Also, in larger schools, it can be hard to find, so students can find friends they met in class. , I hope we can create a community together.”
