Megan Roop.

Having spent her entire childhood in dance studios and her adult life working as a professional dancer in New York City, Megan Roop was used to following other people’s choreography. However, in 2017 she officially became independent, sculpture association. Using the TSS Method, Roup introduces people to a new form of cardio that centers inclusivity and eliminates all the talk of dieting and weight loss that was (and continues to be) prevalent in the fitness world. did.

“When I was in my early 20s, I really struggled with body image and the provocative language used in magazines and on social media, such as before and after photos,” Roop told the Observer. “I didn’t want to be a part of the problem that I felt was being perpetuated and that we’re all told over and over again certain stories about our bodies and how we should be. I think they’re tired of being told that,”’ she explains of her conscious decision to stop marketing TSS in a results-driven manner.

Instead, we prioritized creating a community where anyone could participate and work hard. “Even if you have a professional dance background, walking into these fitness classes can be intimidating,” said Roop, who attended a boutique fitness class when she lived in New York City. I remember when I first encountered the scene. “I wanted to create a class for busy women that was shorter and a bit more simplified dance cardio in a cozy space. I’ve had people come to my class with no dance background and really succeed. I wanted them to feel like they did, but at the same time, I wanted someone with a dance background to come to my class and enjoy it just as much.”

Today, Loop’s loyal fans include It girls like model Miranda Kerr and actress Dakota Johnson, but her success didn’t come overnight. After she graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Roup began teaching her fitness classes (and modeling) to supplement her income as a professional dancer. “I quickly fell in love with teaching and connecting with other women, and that really opened my eyes to my next chapter,” she says. In the midst of New York City’s boutique fitness boom, Roop began exploring all kinds of workouts, from dance cardio to Pilates reform to vinyasa yoga, before pursuing her own method. “When I started teaching, there were days when no one would come and other days when only two people would come,” she recalls. “But I knew that what I was getting from the class was special, the way it was taught was special, the energy it produced was special. I just needed to get my bodies together in that room to experience it. Thanks to word of mouth, more New Yorkers became aware of Sculpt Society, and Loop developed a social media strategy to work with influencers and models to generate more buzz.

Less than a decade later, Roup has amassed more than 500,000 followers on Instagram, runs an app with more than 600 on-demand classes, and continues to teach in-person classes (currently in Los Angeles I teach once a week (I have moved). But she’s not done yet.

As Roup’s own life began to include marriage and motherhood, she took The Sculpt Society community with her on the journey. Roup, who is prenatal and postnatal certified, has created her TSS mom program, which includes classes specific to each stage of pregnancy and postpartum. She also plans to start a fertility treatment program that she created with the help of: Dr. Lucky Sekhon, MDis a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist, infertility specialist, and obstetrician-gynecologist based in New York City. “If she’s trying to get pregnant, if she’s doing IVF, or egg freezing, she’ll tell you what classes and workouts to do in each section.” Share the loop. “We are also working with mental health professionals to help women feel more supported in their fertility journey.”

From her skincare favorites to the ultimate brunch spot, Roup shares her current must-haves with Observer.

Megan Roup founded Sculpt Society to introduce a new form of cardio that centers inclusivity.

Morning skin care routine:

I don’t wash my face in the morning. I have dry skin and have never applied it before, so I just spray it on my face. water.I Love So I try a lot of different products, but I use vitamin C, eye cream, moisturizer, oil, and SPF.I love YSE now vitamin c serumI’m using caudalie eye cream And that resveratrol moisturizer.I always use face oil vintner’s daughter Even if it’s a little expensive. you beauty I have something great, and naturium There are really great squalane oils out there that are price conscious. As for SPF, I love it supergoop glow screen or their invisible sunscreen.

The food that fuels her training:

I’m a big believer in intuitive eating, so if you’re hungry right after you wake up, try some overnight oats with an apple and almond butter, or some almond or oat milk from the California Organics line. Do simple things like eat. It really changes. I love Good Culture cottage cheese. Or sometimes my husband makes me a smoothie. If I want something a little more hearty, I have Ezekiel toast, smashed avocado, and eggs.

Here’s her health routine:

Physical activity is a huge self-care tool for me, but now that I’m a mom, it’s just a small thing. I love infrared saunas and recently got one too. lymph roller From love wellness that doesn’t take much time. About a year ago, I started waking up before my first child, Harlow, and then we had our second child, so from 45 minutes in the morning she took a walk outside for an hour to get her vitamin D. I decided to take it. Then, when you ingest caffeine, you’re right back in the thick of things.

Popular coffee and brunch spots in Los Angeles:

I love Verve and Alfred’s and I know Blue Bottle is everywhere, but I love that too. And for brunch, great white shark. The Great White Brekkie is absolutely delicious. He also loved the avocado he folded on his toast and eggs.

Favorite vacation spot:

My family is from Cape Town and Cape Town is my favorite place. I grew up spending December there, but now I go every few years because it’s become difficult to travel with my kids.

What she travels with:

I’m the type of person who likes to land and go straight to the hotel, so I try to bring as much as I can with my carry-on. I have acquired many Calpak suitcases that I really like. The price is also reasonable. I always carry headphones, like Sony noise-canceling headphones or traditional AirPods, but I also need snacks, a notebook, and a pen in my bag.

Here’s what she doesn’t want to part with in her wardrobe:

I have a whole workout section in my wardrobe! It’s kind of ridiculous, and when you see this you’re like, “I don’t need 100 pairs of leggings.” However, since I do a lot of photo shoots, I always try to keep my outfits fresh and mix and match. We just did a little capsule launch with The Sculpt Society, so I’m all for that, but I like to shop at Bandier, Carbon 38, Alo Yoga, Vuori, Athleta, and Beyond Yoga. There are so many great brands out there.
