Hello
Hi May! We kicked off the month by hosting our first annual Mental Health & Wellness Fair. It’s an opportunity to find things that will help you feel better, move forward, and get into a happy, healthy place. The event not only provided support to the community, but also served as a one-stop, networking and resource gathering hub to review the different health options available and assess what might be helpful. We saw people of all ages grappling with different levels of health. The Bingoettes came out and were excited to connect and play bingo. They were thrilled to be reunited and stayed for chair yoga and Sharp’s resources. Educational presentations from Rady Children’s Hospital and other area experts shared tools to help all areas of health. Safe Harbor Coronado interns and volunteers assisted in the event area and led mindfulness games and face painting to encourage youth participation. Coronado Dance, Coronado Cheer and COSA Woodwind Ensemble added moving entertainment, and Claire’s Cottage hosted a number of self-care opportunities including Reiki, yoga and meditation.
Safe Harbor Coronado was honored to connect with our community and provide support and resources. We hope to see lots of smiling faces and for participants to leave with improved skills and health tips to help them get through life. Thank you to everyone at Christ Church Day School for the gorgeous courtyard and facilities that make this a welcoming venue for all.
Although my work focuses on mental wellness, well-being extends beyond May Mental Wellness Month. What helps ease the blues in May and the months that follow? With Gratitude, Acupressure Buds from Sharp Hospital, Thinking Cap from Turtle Time, and Simple Parenting from Love & Logic Maintaining the mantra…. Ah, it’s nice to have so many options. On your “special” day, stay in bed longer than necessary and spend a few minutes laughing with Jim Gaffigan, enjoying a latte with a friend, or taking a deep breath alone on a quiet beach walk. Sometimes it starts with. Tuesday nights with Linda at Coronado Yoga & Wellness, delicious and healthy soups from Boney’s, and comforting hugs from my family also help keep me going. Wondering why it smells like peppermint? It’s “day”. Find simple things that work for you and that really make you feel good and incorporate them into your life. Your mental health depends on it.
