Pineapple Upside Down Cake is a classic spring treat. The combination of juicy pineapple and cherries and soft cake is exquisite. Martha Stewart recently put her own new spin on this delicious dessert, calling it an easy recipe for beginners to make.
“This citrus upside-down cake may look scary, but it’s actually foolproof,” Stewart captioned an Instagram post. But instead of pineapple and cherries, Stewart uses tangerines and oranges in her Citrus Upside Down Cake.
In her caption, martha cooks The star walks us through this simple recipe that looks absolutely delicious. “Slice the peeled oranges, place them in a square tin coated with butter-rum glaze, spread the batter on top, bake, and flip.” It’s that easy!
“We combined blood orange, Cala callas and mandarin to achieve the effect of Chartres stained glass,” she added.
In the complete recipe originally posted, martha stewart living In April 2021, Stewart provides more detailed instructions and ingredient list, including vanilla extract and sour cream for the cake and dark rum for the topping.
Stewart makes this cake by whisking together several dry ingredients in one bowl and using an electric mixer to combine the wet ingredients in another bowl. For her topping, she recommends using a sharp knife to cut off the end of each citrus, cutting off the skin and extracting “as much white pith as possible.” From there, she slices the fruit crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick rounds, removes the seeds, and arranges the citrus slices in the rum mixture on the bottom of the pot.
The dough is then made and, when finished, turned upside down before serving (hence the name).
The finished result is truly divine! The colorful oranges look beautiful and burst with flavor with every bite. Serve with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or other fruit. It’s the perfect dessert for spring!
“It looks like art!” one person commented. One person praised it, saying, “It’s just like a painting 🔥🔥🔥.”
“I made this a few years ago. So beautiful and delicious!” wrote another.
