Investigators at the Nong Veng substation immediately received the report and rushed to the scene with a rescue team in coordination with medical personnel.
When police Lt. Col. Chawaloi Thongrod arrived at the meditation park in Nongklot district of Mueang district, he found local villagers desperately digging with shovels in an attempt to save Montri. Despite the swift response of authorities and the efforts of the local community, it became clear that Montoli had already succumbed to the weight of the engulfed sand.
Investigation revealed that before the accident, Montoli had driven a tractor to the meditation park to transport sand donated by local residents for personal use in home improvements. However, the pile of sand unexpectedly collapsed and he ended up suffocating the whole thing.
The accident was later discovered when villagers found his tractor idling nearby. Once the body was recovered, it was taken to a hospital and police proceeded with the investigation in accordance with legal procedures. Since then, families of the deceased have been allowed to collect the bodies for religious funerals.
The incident cast a somber tone on the local community, which frequents the meditation park in search of tranquility and spiritual practice. It also highlights the potential dangers that individuals may face when undertaking tasks that are considered routine, even in the most benign of environments.
According to Khaosod News Agency, authorities are currently stressing the importance of safety measures when conducting such work and are conducting further investigations to prevent it from happening again.
