A local meditation and wellness center that announced it was closing in early June has been bought by new owners and will remain open.
Salt Wellness, an Oldham County company focused on holistic wellness, has purchased the Louisville Salt Cave, located at 9800 Shelbyville Road.
“We are committed to protecting this beloved sanctuary and are pleased to continue serving our wonderful community,” Salt Wellness said in a Facebook post Thursday.
Salt Wellness is preparing to open SALT at 6003 Pleasant Colony Court, Suite 4 in Crestwood, with plans to open in late August or early September.
Founder Nicole Bartlett opened the Louisville Salt Cave, the city’s first salt cave, in 2015 as a “community space for spiritual and self-discovery.”
In a June 3 Facebook post, Bartlett said the pandemic and a lack of community education about the benefits of salt therapy, also known as halotherapy, influenced her decision to close.
“I launched a business in 2015 that nobody had ever heard of,” Bartlett told The Courier Journal in June. “So, for the last nine years, I’ve really dedicated my time to education.” [on] There was a learning curve at first because we are a new industry and we don’t know what halotherapy is.”
Under new ownership, Louisville Salt Cave plans to reopen with the same staff and services the week of July 15. Unexpired gift cards will be valid for the next 12 months.
Salt therapy is said to benefit the immune system and ease symptoms of allergies, asthma and skin disorders, The Courier Journal previously reported.
“We are committed to the mission of the Salt Cave and creating a sacred place of rest,” reads a Facebook announcement on the Louisville Salt Cave page. “We believe in carrying on Nicole’s vision in building the Louisville Salt Cave. We hope that by stepping away from the everyday and learning to heal ourselves mentally, physically, and spiritually, we can all make the outside world a better place.”
