The schools awarded the grants are:
- Hazleton Area School District: $296,289
- Old Forge School District: $340,470
- Scranton School District: $718,902
Hazleton Area School District (HASD) is the largest in Luzerne County and the fastest growing in the state.
HASD says $45,000 of the awarded grant will go toward details of new devices it plans to purchase, and $251,289 will go toward mental health resources as it plans to hire new staff.
A total of $155 million in federal and state school safety funds has been approved by PCCD’s School Safety and Security Committee for the 2023-2024 fiscal year, officials said.
