JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Land Trust is hosting new summer programs at Greenspace on the Block that include free yoga and mental health resiliency classes.
Erwin Velazquez will be teaching an English/Spanish yoga class every Monday from 5:30-6:30 PM through August 26th. Jess Neuhaus will be teaching a Hatha yoga class every Wednesday from 10-11 AM through August 28th. Hatha yoga is a style of yoga that focuses on breathing techniques and channeling energy. Both instructors are knowledgeable and experienced and teach classes locally. Yoga mats donated by Lululemon will be available on a first come, first served basis.
Twice a month on Fridays from 1-2 p.m., Charlotte Alexander of the Mental Wellness Collaborative will lead a mental health resilience class for participants of all ages. Upcoming dates are July 19 and 26, and August 16 and 30. Anyone interested in participating can sign up for the workshop at any time.
Workshop-style classes range from coloring mandalas and learning about the benefits of sensory engagement and meditation practices to stringing and making gratitude beads. These classes aim to make the topic of mental health approachable and accessible.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of summer and enjoy some green space in the heart of our city,” Community Conservation Director Zach Andres said in a statement.
The green space on the Block was created through the “Save the Block” campaign, which raised $7 million in 2019 to prevent the sale of land on Broadway between Persephone and XYZ to a hotel developer. The park is scheduled to open in 2022, with JHLT holding the land rights. On the southeast corner of the Block, the new History Jackson Hole Museum will open on June 29.
