
Sun Valley, California (May 4, 2024) – The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power hosted the second annual event in partnership with IBEW Local 18.n.d. The annual Women’s Career and Wellness Expo on Saturday drew nearly 2,400 attendees. Job seekers, LADWP staff, students, families and community members gathered at the utility’s Truesdale Training Center to learn about LADWP jobs and benefits and enjoy healthy lifestyle activities. The event aims to highlight career opportunities in the utilities industry, particularly for women, and the many employee initiatives and programs that help support work-life balance and women in the workplace.
The Truesdale Training Center (where line workers are trained) was the perfect location to host the many live demonstrations that took place throughout the day. From helicopters to heavy equipment to climbing utility poles, attendees were able to get a visual and hands-on look at the incredible variety of day-to-day work that LADWP staff do. Many of his LADWP employees from a variety of occupations were also on hand to provide information and inspiration for anyone interested in a fulfilling and secure public service career while contributing to the City of Los Angeles.

At many career booths, staff from dozens of LADWP departments shared details about their roles and information on how to apply for similar jobs. Typical careers range from specialized fields such as human resources and customer service to skilled trades that are less traditional for women, such as instrument mechanics, heavy truck drivers, and electrical mechanics.
In the wellness area, Expo attendees learned about the benefits of working with LADWP, including health insurance, tuition reimbursement, employee resource groups, and retirement plans. Children who attended with their parents enjoyed activities such as rock climbing and face painting, and everyone enjoyed a dance party with a DJ.
