KOCHI: While Brazil laments Neymar’s spinal injury, the state of Kerala is considering the possibility of providing quality Ayurvedic treatment to the soccer superstar.
A team of Ayurvedic medical experts has submitted a report to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy outlining therapeutic procedures that can be used to treat Neymar. The doctor prescribed him a two-month treatment plan.
The report was in response to the Prime Minister’s request for a report from Mr. T. Sivadas, Director of Ayurvedic Medical Education.
KMI Mather, president of the Kerala State Football Association, suggested to the CM the possibility of providing treatment to Neymar in Kerala. “On behalf of the KFA, I suggested to the CM that I could suggest to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) that we could potentially provide Neymar with quality Ayurvedic treatment here,” Mather said. .
A team of Ayurvedic experts was tasked with collating data from the internet on the extent of injuries sustained by Brazilian soccer players.
Neymar, 22, was taken off on a stretcher after being kicked in the back by Colombia’s Juan Zuniga in Fortaleza. Subsequent tests revealed a fracture in the third vertebra.
CBF said the prognosis was “good” and the injury should be given adequate time to heal.
Brazil’s national team doctor José Luis Runco said: “Any rash action would put his future as a player in jeopardy,” adding that Neymar would be sidelined for about 45 days.
A CBF statement said the Brazilian star would remain under the sole care of federation doctors until the end of the World Cup and that alternative treatments would not be discussed.
“My dream is not over,” Neymar said in a video message. “It was interrupted by the play, but it continued. My dream was to play in the World Cup final as well, but this time it didn’t work out.” he said.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Dr K Elangovan said stars are unlikely to seek Ayurvedic treatment in the state. He revealed that the expert report states that Neymar cannot receive Ayurvedic treatment because he had sustained a spinal fracture. “Ayurveda does not have a cure for fractures. We could only treat the stiffness of the body,” said a source.
