Kenvue studies the efficacy and tolerability of retinol to target signs of skin aging

Retinol has become one of the most well-known skin care products to help consumers combat signs of aging within the skin, but how effective is this ingredient really?

Kenvue is sharing data from research on both the efficacy and tolerability of 0.1% retinol to help consumers combat signs of skin aging.

“Retinol is the most commonly used over-the-counter anti-aging cosmetic ingredient recommended by dermatologists and sought after by consumers. However, not all retinol products are created equal.” said Menas Kisoulis, Senior Director of Global Science Engagement at Kenvue. “This ingredient is difficult to formulate and stabilize, but Kenvue has particular expertise with over 30 years of experience in formulating and patenting retinol products. “We demonstrate how a stabilized bioactive retinol formulation can effectively promote clinical skin health benefits.”

In six vehicle-controlled studies of 0.1% stabilized bioactive retinol in women aged 30 years and older with signs of mild to moderate photodamage caused by UV radiation, one dermatologist found that forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, We evaluated skin damage such as wrinkles and age spots. 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks.

Researchers found that compared to people who simply took retinol, retinol led to significant improvements in all signs of photoaging, with changes appearing starting at week 4 and lasting through week 12, the company said. Stated.

Regarding skin irritation, symptoms were mild to moderate and temporary. Retinol and its vehicle were well tolerated by participants throughout the 12 weeks without any signs of severe irritation.

“This vehicle-controlled analysis provides compelling new evidence that this ingredient effectively reduces signs of skin aging without causing irritation,” said the study’s lead author, Dermatology. said Patricia K. Faris, MD, MS, FAAD, clinical associate professor. She received her doctorate from Tulane University School of Medicine and practices as a dermatologist in Louisiana. “These findings further support the use of products including Neutrogena Her Rapid Her Wrinkle Her Repair Series that target signs of aging with 0.1% stabilized bioactive retinol.”
