Kate Middleton has spent much of 2024 recovering from cancer since being diagnosed in January. The Princess of Wales has largely stayed out of the spotlight until now, but recently returned with a message revealing the “strength” that keeps her “mental and emotional wellbeing” intact.
Kate Middleton posts message of joy
Just days after appearing at Wimbledon with her daughter, Princess Charlotte, Kate Middleton shared news about another project that’s close to her heart. On July 18, the Princess of Wales posted a series of photos and messages to her Instagram Stories celebrating the opening of two gardens at London’s Natural History Museum, where she is a royal patron.
“I am a huge supporter of the museum’s efforts to create special spaces that encourage people of all ages to reconnect with nature and learn about ways to protect our natural world,” Kate said in the opening slide.
In a second photo, surrounded by her children and their families, the Princess talks about how nature helps her stay healthy. She writes: “I know that nature supports our growth and well-being – both in bringing us joy and helping us to stay physically, mentally and spiritually healthy. I hope that these gardens will inspire and transform the thousands of people who visit.”
Kate Middleton returns to spotlight after cancer diagnosis

On July 14, Kate Middleton was back in the public eye after revealing that she had been diagnosed with cancer in January 2024. She sat in the royal box at Wimbledon to watch the men’s final with her daughter, Princess Charlotte, and sister, Pippa Middleton.
The Princess of Wales was greeted with a standing ovation when she arrived at the Royal Box on Centre Court, wearing a purple dress, one of the event’s official colours, and presented the trophy to the winner.
The presentations are part of Kate’s responsibilities as patron of the All England Club and host of the annual tennis tournament. The late Queen Elizabeth appointed Kate as patron of the organization in 2016.
Typically, Kate attends multiple games at the annual event, but this year she only attended one game due to her ongoing cancer treatment.
This will be Prince Charles’ second public appearance since he released a video message in March and then a statement in June in which he spoke about his cancer diagnosis and ongoing treatment.
The Princess of Wales details her treatment and recovery
In March 2024, Kate Middleton released a video message on social media about her health. She explained that she had cancer and shared details about her treatment.
“I underwent major abdominal surgery in London in January. At the time it was not thought that I had cancer. The operation was successful. However, tests after the operation showed that cancer was present. My medical team therefore recommended that I undergo preventative chemotherapy, and I am currently in the early stages of treatment.”
Kate has remained quiet about her treatment until June 14, 2024. The day before Trooping the Colour, King Charles’ birthday parade, she took to Instagram again to share further updates.
“I am recovering well but as anyone undergoing chemotherapy knows, there are good days and bad days. On the bad days I feel weak and tired and just need to rest. But on the good days I feel strong and want to make the most of it,” Kate revealed.
She concluded: “My treatment is ongoing and will continue for a few more months. On the days when I feel well enough, I enjoy taking part in school life, spending personal time on things that give me energy and positivity, and starting to do a little work from home.”
Kate Middleton lives in Adelaide Cottage with her husband, Prince William, and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
