press release
Create Better Health is one of many programs offered through the Kansas SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education Program. SNAP-Ed is the nutrition education component of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The Create Better Health program is offered through the Kansas State University Extension Office. Create Better Health teaches people how to eat healthy and live active lives. Our classes focus on teaching participants how to create delicious, nutritious meals using ingredients they already have on hand. All information you receive in a Create Better Health class is based on USDA nutrition and physical activity recommendations. Each class is designed to build on the previous lesson. By attending 4-8 classes, you will have the knowledge and skills to live a healthy lifestyle.
Create Better Health (CBH) is a comprehensive nutrition curriculum that teaches adult SNAP-Ed participants how to eat healthily and live an active life on a limited budget. Its goal is to equip participants with the knowledge and cooking skills they need to live an active and healthy lifestyle with limited resources. CBH combines the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutrition and physical activity recommendations and is based on social cognitive theory.
Classes offered in this special series are: Introduction to MyPlate and Physical Activity, Meal Planning, Grocery Shopping and Goal Setting, Fruits, Vegetables and Cardio, Protein, Food Safety and Resistance Training, Grains and Balance, and Flexible Healthy Eating Patterns. If participants attend all six classes, they will receive $30 worth of free equipment.
To participate in this program, half of the participants must be eligible for assistance (SNAP/TEFAP/TANF/WIC/Medicaid/Medicare). We have a maximum of 12 participants. Youth in grades 3 and above may attend with an adult. Please let us know if you will need childcare to attend.
