Hello everyone! Welcome to summer in Arkansas. We had a lot of rain yesterday. A few people had branches and trees down. Enough about the weather.
About a month ago I had a filling come out in my back tooth. At least that’s what I thought. I had an appointment on Monday so they said “let’s wait until your appointment”. I panicked and said “what if it hurts?” They replied “call me if it hurts”. I’m such an adult and I don’t want to be in any pain at all. I had over a month until my appointment on Monday. I went back in and the hygienist said “I think you’ll need a crown”. I definitely don’t need a crown. Here good old Dr. Duff comes in and he says “you’ll definitely need a crown”. The filling is still there but the tooth is broken. If I get Dr. Larry Brown to fill it it will stay there. He was excellent. I’ve had that filling since I was probably 12 years old. The crazy thing about this is I have no idea what happened to that tooth. I think I swallowed it. I had the temporary tooth in until the day before I went on vacation. I was told to be careful and take good care of it until then.
A few years ago I had to get a crown put in and they put in a temporary crown until the real one came in and the assistant said “don’t eat anything sticky or gooey on that side” I said no. If you know me and how much I love candy, within a week I was eating a Starburst and the temporary crown came off and I had to get another crown put in and this time the assistant said “don’t eat on that side” I held out until the new crown came in.
Another thing that bothers me about going to the dentist is that Novocaine makes me crazy. And when I say that, this is what happens. I get as confused as the drunk Otis the Town guy from The Andy Griffith Show. I get dizzy and act crazy. I won’t tell them what I said. They’re probably used to it. I had a friend who went to the dentist once. I won’t mention her name. She got a shot of Novocaine and her mouth was numb. She never went anywhere without putting on lipstick, so while she was still at the dentist, she took some lipstick out of her purse and put it on her lips. No one bothered to tell her that she had lipstick on her lips and all over her mouth. She got out of her car and looked in the rearview mirror and was almost hoarse. She definitely had lipstick on, but not on her lips. It always makes me laugh when I think about it. I’m curious what the people in the waiting room thought.
Just a little advice, don’t put on lipstick until you get the feeling back in your mouth. I hope you all have a great 4th of July. Stay safe and don’t get too hot. This week’s recipe is peach cake. I love fresh peaches. My friend bought me some peaches from Spiro and they were delicious.
Easy Peach Cake
1 box white cake mix (mix according to cake box directions)
2 cups or 2 large peaches, peeled and diced
1 tablespoon flour
Frosting
2 cups fresh cream
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon (plus a little extra for sprinkling)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9×13 pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place diced peaches in a bowl with 1 tablespoon flour and set aside. Mix cake mix according to box instructions. Mix peaches. Pour into prepared pan and bake for approximately 30-35 minutes until center of cake is set and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool completely. In a large bowl, whisk all frosting ingredients until stiff peaks form. Spread on cooled cake, slice and serve. You can also sprinkle cinnamon on top. If you don’t want to make homemade frosting, drizzle Cool Whip on top and add a splash of peach juice to the Cool Whip and mix well. This is the perfect dish to enjoy on a hot summer day.
