A Miami-based Pilates franchise is making its North Carolina debut in downtown Raleigh this summer, and it’s already looking to expand across the state.

Jetset Pilates, which was founded in 2010 and has been franchising since 2022, will open its first studio in the Smoky Hollow area of downtown Raleigh, near Capital Boulevard and West Peace Street, at 421 N. Harrington St.

In addition to the downtown studio, Jetset has plans to open two other locations in Raleigh and wants to expand to a dozen more franchises in different cities across the state, such as Asheville and Charlotte. Locations of the other Raleigh studios have not yet been announced.

“Our new development deal in North Carolina marks an exciting chapter for Jetset Pilates as we solidify our presence in the state,” Bert Albertse, the CEO of the company, said in a news release. “As we strive for further expansion throughout North Carolina, we are eager to partner with individuals with an interest in the fitness space to help bring an accessible, Modern Reformer Pilates experience to their local communities.”

What does Jetset offer?

- The company’s 50-minute classes are designed with minimal transition times, intended to keep muscles at maximum tension throughout the workout.
- Class exercises are choreographed on a custom Pilates reformer, featuring platform eyelets and rope cabling. Participants also use a Pilates ring and light dumbbells.
- Jetset offers private classes with a dedicated instructor and classes focused on strengthening abs and arms.

Jetset has eight locations in Florida, with more coming to different cities across the Sunshine State.

Besides North Carolina, the brand is also opening studios in Georgia, New York, Texas and Australia, and it has plans for more in Washington, D.C., California, Colorado and Massachusetts.

What’s in Smoky Hollow?

The Smoky Hollow area is home to apartments, offices, retail — including a Publix grocery store — and restaurants. Dose Yoga and Smoothie Bar has a location in the downtown area, in addition to its North Hills studio.

- Tucker Street Diner, from the owners of The Shiny Diner in Cary, will open later this year with a coffee shop, an all-day breakfast menu and modern takes on classic dishes.
- An unnamed cocktail bar from the people behind Madre, a Spanish tapas spot also in Smoky Hollow, will serve batch cocktails on tap, beer, wine and small plates.
- The Crunkleton cocktail bar and restaurant, a favorite in Chapel Hill, announced plans to expand to Smoky Hollow in 2022, The N&O reported, but it hasn’t opened yet. This will be the brand’s third location, joining the original, which opened in Chapel Hill in 2008, and the second, which came to Charlotte in 2018. The Raleigh bar and restaurant will offer cocktails, open-fire cooking, and antique and rare whiskeys.
