“I’ve been successful three times. [last week]”Because I always bring it to potlucks,” Pat said.
She quickly realized that sharing her favorite recipes might sabotage her plans. “People will look at the recipes and wonder what else to bring to the potluck,” Pat joked.
The first step, Pat says, is to buy blackberries. She used to pick them from her garden, but “the thorns grew up and hurt my husband, and he poisoned all the blackberries.”
Jennifer buttered the skillet, and Pat told Daly how much flour, sugar (1 cup each), and salt (1 teaspoon) to put in a bowl. They added the blackberries to the greased skillet, then sprinkled them with lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon almond extract.
The mother-daughter duo clashed when Jennifer tried to correct Pat’s instructions, explaining that she added an egg to the flour and sugar mixture, but Jennifer thought he meant butter.
“No, no, no, no, no, Jennifer Ann!” Pat told her, and the studio erupted in laughter.
“Jennifer, go to your room!” Daly joked. “Stop fighting with your mom.”
While Jennifer whipped the cream for the topping, Pat and Daly made the crumble and scattered it on top of the berries. The final step is to pour six ounces of melted butter over the dessert and put it in the oven to bake “until it’s done,” Pat said simply.
“It’s so easy, you can eat it all the time, and you don’t have to carry it home,” Pat explained, “We had a backyard potluck recently, and look, everyone was trying the cobbler first.”
Earlier this month, the dynamic duo shared another potluck-friendly dish on Instagram, showing off a recipe for creamed corn that Jennifer’s children — Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12 — with ex-husband Ben Affleck have affectionately dubbed “Grandma Corn.”
The video, posted on June 2, shows Pat tossing corncobs “for the bears” in his backyard in West Virginia and some fun conversation. Pat said he’s never actually seen a bear eat corn, but would have liked to.
