Many CEOs feel pressured to always be available and connected. How do you set boundaries? What routines or habits help you disconnect from work?
Before, I felt the pressure to be constantly connected and the urge to reply to every message or email as soon as possible. But over the years, I have learned to disconnect from external cues and enjoy the moment with myself. Even if it’s just a short break to read a book or practice daily meditation. In my case, I go to the gym every day and set aside time to read and meditate so that I can have a clearer view of life.
I also plan to set aside time for a 10-day silent meditation camp every year, and I participated in January 2024. It was my first experience with a silent meditation camp, with no phone calls, no conversations (even eye contact), no reading or writing in a diary. For 10 days, I was able to face myself, look, feel, and observe my inner self. Although I am still a beginner, this camp made me realize how important it is to be present in the present moment and pay attention to my emotions and feelings without reacting. I left this experience with a sharper mind and more calm.
What other aspects are important for sustainable leadership?
Personally, I think it’s very important to have fellow entrepreneurs in your life who can support each other. It helps you realize that you’re not alone and that things can work out even when the current situation doesn’t meet your expectations. I’m also very grateful for the people who volunteered to be my mentors and advisors. I’ve learned so much from them, both personally and professionally.
For me, it’s very important to have hobbies and passions outside of work, besides friendships and mentorship. I sometimes work with people as a personal trainer, which I find very fulfilling and a good way to distract myself from the stress of work.
Continuous learning and personal growth are essential for sustainable leadership. What are some ways you can invest in your own development within your busy schedule?
Personally, I take continuous learning and personal growth very seriously and they are an important source of happiness for me. I devote my time to holistic growth of mind, body and soul. Balanced personal growth keeps your ego in check and makes you a humble person.
I go to the gym every day to improve my powerlifting performance and improve the function of different parts of my body, and I also try to set aside time each day to read and meditate, which have been habits I’ve developed over the years.
Apart from my routine, I occasionally enroll in courses to gain certifications in my field of hobbies like ACE Personal Trainer Certification and Precision Nutrition: Nutrition Coaching Certification. The knowledge I have gained has helped me and those around me. I have also made friends in the fitness community with whom I can share and learn.
