In his book Memoirs of God’s Love: How I Discovered the Most Secret of All SecretsSankarshan Das vividly narrates his spiritual journey from American boy to insightful, inquisitive teenager to accomplished song composer and beyond. Sankarshan Das unravels not only what he did and where he did it, but also the deep emotional, psychological and cultural influences of a young man trying to find his way in the late 1960s. What began as a yearning for a spiritual revolution culminates in a wonderful, unimaginable world: the flowering Hare Krishna movement, full of transcendental wonder and joy.

Sankarshan Das (real name Steve Bridges) had a typical American childhood: a loving mother and father, two younger siblings, and a suburban American home. As a young man, Sankarshan was successful in school and by all material standards had a bright future ahead of him. He had many talents – a sharp intellect, powerful oratory skills, and discipline, not to mention being an excellent musician. But what truly set Sankarshan apart from the rest of his generation was his deep questions about life, the world, and himself.

Sankarshan vividly recounts his college years, not only telling us when and where key events happened, but also delving deep into his moods and emotions. He also details the political and cultural changes that characterized the late 1960s, such as the Vietnam War, the Summer of Love, hippie culture, and the wanderlust that an entire generation felt for more. He writes in a very relatable way about the thoughts, emotions, and conflicts of that time – the eternal desire for more that many of us feel at that age. He talks about his adventures in finding answers to life’s biggest questions: Who am I? Why am I here? What should I do with my life? You’ll feel like you’re traveling with Sankarshan across the United States, from college in North Texas to summer camp in New York, short stays in Denver and San Francisco, a semester at the University of Texas at Austin, and everywhere in between.

Critic Uttamasloka Das reads from The Divine Love Memoir.

Sankarshan’s vivid recounting of his life culminates in an epic spiritual climax: his decision to enter Vishnuzana Swami’s Austin Temple and his eventual dedication to the Hare Krishna movement and his divine grace, AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Sankarshan also provides highlights and remarkable stories from his post-initiative life, including a terrifying tale of an attempted robbery of the Miami temple, a wonderful time distributing prasadam on the University of Florida campus, and a poem about his brief but transcendental stint in prison.

His writing style not only draws the reader in but also immerses them in the story. Moreover, his explanation of the colloquial language of ISKCON makes it easy for those unfamiliar with ISKCON to understand the characters and events. Additionally, readers are given access to a free e-book. Who doesn’t love free stuff? Especially when it’s free and transcendental! Memoirs of God’s Love This is one of the most well written and thought out books I have read recently and I hope you will pick it up soon.
