Iowa State University has been awarded the 2024 Platinum Bell Seal for workplace mental health from Mental Health America (MHA). Bell Seal is a first-of-its-kind workplace mental health certification that recognizes employers who strive to create a mentally healthy workplace for their employees.
Platinum certification is the highest of Bell Seal’s four levels, surpassing Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
“Achieving status as a Bell Seal Accredited Organization demonstrates Iowa State University’s continued commitment to the health and well-being of our employees,” said Kristi Durr, University Vice President for Human Resources (UHR). said. “University leaders recognize that investing in the mental health of their employees is an investment in the financial, social, and mental health of the university. But more than that, it’s the right thing to do. .”
The UHR Benefits and Worklife Team at Iowa State completed an assessment of the university’s policies and practices in four areas: workplace culture, benefits, compliance, and wellness programs. In awarding platinum certification, MHA cited the university’s efforts in the following areas:

- Competitive and mental health friendly benefits package.
- We value and are committed to work-life balance and employee happiness.
- Commitment to recruiting and retaining an inclusive workforce.
MHA is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting mental health, well-being, and disease prevention for all people. In 2019, we launched the Workplace Mental Health Initiative to recognize companies and organizations that understand the value of addressing mental health in the workplace and have policies and practices that support the health of their employees. Introduced “Bell Seal”. One in four employers meets the criteria for Bell Seal Certification, and even fewer can achieve Platinum status.
