Following the success of International Yoga Day in Kelowna, organizers from the Canadian Heartfulness Institute are looking ahead to next year. Around 100 people took part in an hour of chair yoga and meditation. “The goal is to build a mentally and spiritually healthy community,” said Devinder Virk, Heartfulness Meditation trainer and organizer. “We want as many people as possible to participate in the event and work towards their mental and physical health.”
The next event will be held in a public location, likely a city park in Kelowna. Organizers plan to provide healthy snacks after the event. “With mental health being at the forefront of today’s health issues, we highly encourage people to focus part of their morning on finding inner peace,” said organizer and meditation trainer Bhupinder Aulakh. “There is no cost to attend the event, so please join us while you do some yoga or meditation.”
International Yoga Day is a day in honour of yoga that is celebrated around the world every year on June 21st since it was adopted by the United Nations in 2014. As yoga exercise has proven to have great benefits for both physical and mental health, the UN felt it was important to promote this ancient Indian wellness practice globally.
