Embrace Pet Insurance provides insurance for dogs and cats in the US, offering simple, comprehensive accident and illness insurance plans. Embrace recently conducted a survey of over 12,000 policyholders, aiming to analyze veterinary care and pet health trends from a pet owner’s perspective.
Key findings include:1:
- 67.4% of respondents said they had to pay vet bills that they wouldn’t have been able to afford without pet insurance.
- 90.8% of people said they believe pet insurance enables owners to provide better veterinary care and overall health for their pets.
- 65.6% of people opted for more extensive treatment for their pet’s illness because they had insurance that covered the costs.
Veterinary professionals can share these results when discussing pet insurance with their clients to help them make an informed decision. Additionally, this could help ease the financial burden faced by many clients who are faced with high costs for necessary treatments.
“These numbers speak for themselves: pet insurance is a critical lifeline for families’ financial and pet health needs,” Embrace Pet Insurance CEO Brian Macias said in a company statement.1 “With veterinary costs rising, the importance of having insurance is clearer than ever, and we’re here to empower pet owners to choose the best care options for their pets without the financial stress.”
Beyond insurance and veterinary-related questions, Embrace also wanted to find out trends in pet owners’ lifestyles and health habits. Here’s what their research revealed:1:
- 45.6% of respondents said they use pet technology (examples provided by Embrace included smart feeders, pet cameras and activity trackers).
- 45.7% said they prepare food for their pets at home or buy human food and treats.
- 55.4% answered that they have the habit of exercising with their pets.
- 66.5% said they would prioritize their pet’s nutrition over their own.
- 85.3% identify themselves with titles like “dog mom” or “cat dad.”
- 65.3% of people said they hadn’t noticed any noticeable reaction from their pets to music, and 74.5% said their pets didn’t watch TV.
“The impact of Embrace was evident when my cat was diagnosed with liver disease this summer,” said Embrace member Ally. “The diagnosis was sudden and unexpected, and we had to make a life-or-death decision on the spot. I called Embrace from my vet’s office and the claim was approved immediately as an emergency treatment. The prompt support and guidance I received over the phone during the emergency approval process meant we were able to get the treatment I needed, and my cat made a full recovery.”1
