SOMA – Ayurvedic Kitchen
Soma Ayurvedic Kitchen serves a variety of dishes, from dumplings to pav bhaji, that are free of onions and garlic. The cafe is frequented by both hospital patients and outpatient visitors. Foodies from across the world visit the restaurant to sample the dishes, but none leave without raving about the healthy food they have had here. Soma Ayurvedic Kitchen is also known as India’s first Ayurvedic kitchen.
The menu also features fast food options like vada pav and dumplings, but Dr Himanshu explains why he gives these dishes an Ayurvedic twist. The pav (bread) is made from ragi, known in Ayurveda for its cooling properties, while the vadas (potato balls) are coated in nutritious moong dal. “Our vada pav is recommended for those suffering from Kapha dosha, which is associated with a relaxed, easy-going personality. The dumplings on offer are made from a blend of wheat, beetroot, ricotta, cottage cheese and spinach. Beetroot is known to have detoxifying properties, while spinach is rich in iron and aids digestion,” he adds.
Soma Kitchen, which is open seven days a week, aims to promote the fusion of Ayurveda and cuisine. Netizens have questioned why the menu includes fast food items like vada pav and dumplings despite being an Ayurvedic kitchen.
