There’s something we still don’t understand about breakfast baked goods. Doughs often need to be mixed, kneaded, and allowed to rise for several hours before baking. So who stays up like 3am to see if breakfast is ready? If so, they deserve kudos, but for the rest of us, cookbook author and TV star Ina Garten has a handy alternative. She makes decadent sticky buns using her store-bought ingredients, which save you tons of time. So this is one of those breakfast baked goods that you can actually make on a busy morning like Easter.
This Ina Garten recipe comes from a cookbook Barefoot Contessa Back to basicsthere “post-content-image // “>”

Rather than starting with yeast dough, which requires a long fermentation time, Ina Garten uses thawed store-bought frozen puff pastry to easily make sticky buns. Barefoot Contessa recommends Pepperidge Farm puff pastry on its website. This is very crispy. We also love Dufour puff pastry, which is made with butter.

Garten makes the sticky buns in a muffin tin. This helps them hold their shape and gives each one the perfect amount of brown sugar and pecan topping. Garten first adds toppings to the muffin cups. This is because when the buns cook, the pan turns upside down and the caramelized topping drips onto the pastry.
The filling is also simple, a blend of melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and raisins. Garten recommends unsalted butter, but to balance the flavors, we recommend using salted butter or sprinkling salt on the filling and topping.
Unlike traditional sticky bun recipes made with leavened yeast dough, Ina Garten’s puff pastry sticky buns are a beginner-friendly recipe that can be made from start to finish in about an hour. You don’t have to wake up before dawn to have these pastries ready in time for breakfast, but they satisfy your morning sweet cravings and pair perfectly with your coffee.
