According to the self-proclaimed aesthetician, to get the most out of your skincare routine, you need to keep an eye on the clock.
He said that if you don’t follow his rules, you’re just wasting the money you spent on skin care products.
Amish Patel, award-winning beautician at Intrigue Cosmetic Clinic in Kent, UK, shares some must-try tips to keep your skin looking healthy and youthful.
One Miracle Minute
Patel said it’s important not to overcomplicate your skincare routine, as that will make it increasingly difficult to stick to it.
Skin care should be “simple but effective.” To see results, you need to continue using it.
“You need a good quality cleanser for your daily preparation,” he said.
“I prefer something with a gentle exfoliant for my more mature clients, as it encourages the exfoliation of skin cells, which naturally slows down as we age and can lead to a dull complexion.
“You’ll also need a hydrating serum and a high SPF.”
Your evening routine shouldn’t include more than four products, he continued.
Apply a “rich moisturizer” only if your skin needs it.

“Layering your skincare products in the right order helps the products absorb into the skin and work more effectively,” he said.
“Always apply your serum before your moisturizer. The thicker the cream, the more of a barrier it creates on top of your skin.”
“Allow at least two minutes between each application to allow the skin to absorb the product.
“Otherwise you’re literally wiping money off your face.”
Food for thought
Patel’s list of anti-ageing must-haves also includes wearing SPF 50 sunscreen all year round and eating a diet rich in superfoods.
“It’s always a good idea to consume foods rich in vitamin C and amino acids, such as tomatoes, strawberries, citrus fruits, peppers and kiwi,” he said.
“Vitamin C occurs naturally in the skin and is essential for maintaining skin elasticity.
“As we age, collagen production slows down, skin loses firmness and begins to develop wrinkles and sagging.
Uninterrupted sleep really does your skin a favor by giving your body uninterrupted time to repair and regenerate.

“However, vitamin C taken orally or applied topically can help maintain collagen in the body and protect it from further damage.”
Patel said that while vitamin C promotes healing, it shouldn’t be used in place of sunscreen.
Amino acids have antioxidant and soothing properties and moisturize the skin.
These are found in meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, quinoa, buckwheat and soy.
Finally, try to limit sugar and alcohol as much as possible, as these can reduce collagen.
Dream Skin
Patel said eight to nine hours of sleep is the “golden ratio” for rejuvenating skin.
“Uninterrupted sleep really benefits your skin because it gives your body uninterrupted time to repair and regenerate,” he emphasized.
“Turn off your digital devices, avoid alcohol and develop an evening routine that relaxes your body and mind so you can get a good night’s sleep.”
