Influencers have become the go-to source for many social media users looking for advice on products and routines for ageless skin.

Mara Ibrahim is the US national education director and skin expert for cosmetics brand Clarins.

She said anti-aging hacks seen online could be dangerous and people should approach them with “a healthy dose of skepticism”.

She revealed to US Sun the beauty tips that skin care experts use themselves.

Ibrahim warned about two hacks that are frequently promoted as alternatives to commercial products that slow the signs of aging.

“Lemon juice is often considered a natural skin whitener and anti-aging agent due to its acidic properties,” she said.

“However, applying undiluted lemon juice directly to the skin can cause irritation, redness, and sensitivity to sunlight.

“It can even cause chemical burns or worsen existing skin conditions.”

She says rubbing ice cubes on your face or leaning over a bowl of ice has also become popular among people looking to reduce puffiness and tighten pores.

“Short-term exposure to cold temperatures may temporarily constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling, but prolonged contact with ice can damage delicate facial skin and break capillaries. , there may be increased sensitivity,” she said.

Standard skin care products

Ibrahim said, “Everyone’s skin ages over time, but some lifestyle factors can accelerate the process.”

These include high stress levels, not eating a balanced diet, and not using proper sunscreen.

“If you don’t correct your stressful lifestyle habits, the aging process can accelerate beyond normal,” she says.

She recommended having a consistent skin care routine that hydrates, nourishes, and protects against environmental stressors to maintain a youthful appearance.

After applying lotion and before moisturizing, apply a serum containing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and vitamin C.

A skincare guru has revealed four essential products that people of all ages should use.

“You should start and end your day with a gentle face wash with a cream or gel cleanser to keep your skin fresh, clean your pores, and keep blemishes at bay,” she said.

“After applying lotion and before moisturizing, apply a serum containing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and vitamin C.

“This step enhances your skin care routine by delivering powerful nutrients and addressing specific skin concerns.

“Rehydrate your skin with a moisturizer in the morning and at night to improve skin tone, minimize fine lines, and increase overall hydration levels.

“Protect your skin every day by wearing sunscreen. This is critical to preventing immediate and long-term damage caused by UV exposure, including premature aging.”

Should I apply vitamin C to my skin?

Topical vitamin C has several benefits for your skin, including moisturizing, reducing redness, and hyperpigmentation.

It may also help boost collagen production and reduce sun damage, according to Healthline.

Research shows it is safe for most skin types, but can cause irritation at concentrations above 20%.

Experts recommend doing a patch test on a small skin area before applying it to your face and waiting 24 hours to see if there are any side effects.

Discontinue topical vitamin C use if you develop a rash, redness, or hives.

Ibrahim said many skin care brands have guides on their websites to help shoppers find the best products for their needs.

She said that skin type and age are important factors to consider when purchasing skin care.

She recommended investing in anti-aging facial serums, moisturizers, eye creams, lip and neck products, exfoliants, and treatment oils.

At Clarins, Organic Harungana and Organic Green Banana are considered two of the best plant-based ingredients to fight the visible signs of aging.

According to the brand’s research, “halungana extract is as effective as retinol” and can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

This ingredient is listed in Super Restorative Day Cream SPF 15 and is priced at $134.

Organic green banana extract, on the other hand, has the power to “visibly” shape, tone and promote elasticity, says Clarins.

It’s included in the company’s Extra Firming Body Gel, which costs $66.
