A skincare guru shares her secrets to maintaining a youthful appearance – And they It doesn’t cost anything.
She also revealed the beauty mistakes that can cause your skin to lose its elasticity, and anti-aging treatments to combat them.
Dr. Hadley King, a board-certified dermatologist, shared her top tips for reversing the signs of aging with US Sun.
She previously debunked four common skincare myths, including one that Jennifer Lopez herself firmly believes in.
No sweets
Her first free method was to reduce her intake of sugar and other refined carbohydrates.
Dr. King said that nearly eliminating both “reduces skin aging.”
“Excess sugar molecules bind to collagen and elastin through a process called glycation, resulting in the production of AGEs, or advanced glycation end products,” she explained.
Experts added that these cross-linked AGE proteins have been proven to be “directly associated with loss of skin elasticity and firmness.”
Consuming too much sugar will eventually cause collagen and elastin fibers to lose their strength and flexibility, leading to skin aging.
Dr. King also encouraged people to step up their fitness regimens.

“Research shows that exercise not only keeps your skin young, but it can even reverse skin aging in people who start exercising later in life,” she explained.
sun smart
Dr. King reminded his readers that “much of the sun damage that accumulates on our skin is the result of daily accidental sun exposure,” and that “we should take prudent daily sun precautions.” Please be careful,” he urged.
Avoid peak UV light hours, seek shade, and wear clothing that protects from UV rays.
Examples she gave include wearing a wide-brimmed hat, UV-blocking sunglasses, and using topical SPF on all exposed areas.
Dr. King described how in an Australian study, medical professionals tracked the skin of people who used sunscreen every day, regardless of the weather.
They then compared this to the skin of people who only used sunscreen on sunny days and likely spent a lot of time outdoors.
At the end of the experiment, it was found that skin aging was significantly improved in those who used sunscreen daily.
Dr. King also emphasized the importance of protecting your skin from blue light as much as possible, especially in an era when everyone is looking at screens at least once a day.
“We now know that blue light can affect your sleep, harm your eyes, and even cause skin discoloration and aging,” she explained.
relieve stress
Next, she recommended finding ways to reduce stress in your life.
“For most of us, stress has definitely increased over the past year, and stress is having a huge impact on our health,” she says.
She added that research has shown that stress can contribute to the development of wrinkles, so it’s important to minimize stress.
Dr. King explained that cortisol, a “major stress hormone,” can destroy collagen in the skin.
“Higher stress levels increase cortisol production, which reduces the skin’s ability to rebuild collagen and elastin over time,” she added.
