Getting into the minds of movie stars is everyday work for celebrity hypnotherapist Kim Friedmatter.
Friedmatter, whose clients include Sharon Stone, Martha Stewart, David Hasselhoff and Jackie Segal, has helped thwart potentially dangerous love affairs both on and off screen.

The author and television personality has worked with countless world leaders, athletes, tech giants and billionaires.
To ensure a blockbuster movie wasn’t marred by a personal affair, she was part of the film’s budget, which was $50,000 for five five-hour takes.
Stick to the script
For Friedmatter, getting actors to stick to a script is more a matter of pattern than magic potion.
“There were a few actors I starred in movies with who had a bad history of falling in love with their co-stars, so I helped them stop this unwanted behavior,” Friedmatter told the US Sun.

“That was a very undesirable pattern, so we had to interrupt that pattern and implement the destruction model of love to stop that from happening,” she said.
“It worked out beautifully. They’re each with their partners now. So it’s been good.”
Friedmatter, who has worked with Jennifer Hudson, says hypnotizing celebrities gives him an advantage.
“One of the most important things is to know someone’s behavior, and if they’re famous and in the public eye, you probably already know their behavioral patterns,” she said.
Another reason she attracts such high-profile clients is because hypnosis gets to the root of the problem quickly.
She describes it as the most efficient way to go “straight to the center.”
“Whatever the issue, I get to the root of it. For example, one of my favorite sayings is, ‘Practice makes perfect,'” she said.
“So, I know that if you’re doing something habitually, you’re going to continue doing it,” she added.
Habits of the Mind
Falling in and out of love isn’t just for the rich and famous.
Rather, it’s about habitual patterns that tug at our heartstrings.
“Love is brain chemistry, relationships are brain chemistry, so there are things you can prepare for,” she added.
Just be careful: the first thing she will ask for is for you to hand over your cell phone.
That’s because associating a particular ringtone with someone triggers a chemical reaction in our mind.
“I’ve heard of people using all sorts of ringtones, from very annoying to funny,” she said.
“If you hear ‘Dumb, dum, dum,’ it sounds bad, right?” she continued.

“Picking up the phone and listening to their stories can feel like a day of trouble and doom.”
Changing the phone number associated with someone when they call you can also create a shift in your subconscious.
“It’s a very simple idea, but it starts with small, actionable things,” she said.
“For example, if you’re having relationship problems or struggling to love someone, you can send them something to put around them,” she added.
“It could be something colorful on your screensaver, a good song that you love.”
She says that just as one can “literally create love” in this way, one can just as easily destroy it.
These techniques can also be used by people with love or sex addictions.
“We just start creating distance between those spaces, and then it becomes less mystical and more scientific,” she said.

She has also worked with mothers who wanted to find better ways to express their love for their children.
“These women love their children, but because of the way they were raised it’s often hard for them to express that love,” she said.
Hypnotize yourself with happiness
As well as helping stars hit the brakes on heartbreak, she also helps them deal with another issue that may be less obvious: guilt.
The biggest problem talented people face, she says, is that they’re unhappy.
“They say, ‘I have a great life and now I feel guilty because I hate my life,’ but now it’s, ‘I’m not living my life, my life is living me,'” she said.
“They are not ungrateful people. In fact, they achieved exactly what they wanted to achieve. But unless you’ve been there, you don’t know what the journey is like,” she added.
“So we start to analyze what the issues are, what the problems are, where the noise is, where it’s catching up.”
She also spends a lot of time with her staff and assistants.

“They need different people to help them at different times with different needs,” she said.
“If my clients are unhappy, it affects every aspect of their lives,” she added.
This includes canceled salon appointments and panic attacks over caring for a large family.
You are very successful
People also use hypnotherapy in their own way.
“My clients in the arts and entertainment industry are so much fun to work with because they are so emotional and visual.
“Athletes want to see results in a physical way, like hitting a ball or achieving an end goal.
“There is a measurable difference in their performance.
“It’s interesting for the engineers because they do everything digitally.”
For business people, it’s as you would expect.
“They want their money to grow,” she said.
“Hypnofan” Kate Middleton
Hypnosis has been in the news thanks to some high-profile fans, such as Kate Middleton, who famously underwent hypnobirthing.
Don’t like going to the dentist? Well, there’s hypnotherapy for you. At least you have some pain management options.

Mental training is also following the trend.
She remembers a time before the pandemic when everything was focused on weight loss and extreme sports.
“Even if they were super fit, they wanted to get fitter. They wanted to climb mountains. They wanted to ride waves.
“All that extra physical energy was being put into people and their spirits.
In retrospect, she realizes this is a harbinger of the challenges we would all face.
Planned Mindset
Friedmatter’s services aren’t just limited to those looking to win gold medals or reach the top of Everest.
More generally, she helps people who suffer from general fatigue.
“This is a map of, ‘How can I live the life I really want?’ It’s about mapping out a different way of doing things,” she said.
“Then the other person reports, ‘Oh, I solved that problem so quickly I never even thought about it,'” she added.
“‘I was doing it before I even knew I was doing it.’ So you have this automated service for yourself.”
She also wants to dispel some misconceptions about the method.
“Hypnotism is really fascinating because it’s actually a much more widespread subject than most people think it has been throughout history,” she said.

“The movie industry has turned it into something else entirely, because it seems like every bank robbery that’s ever happened has been done by a hypnotized person,” she added.
Many people she meets also believe it’s aimed at treating addiction, but she clarifies that it’s more about addictive patterns.
“It’s really the way you think, the way you speak, the way you act in relationships,” she said.
There is nothing that your subconscious mind won’t move and can’t guide you to move it for the better.

While hypnotherapy might conjure up images of “getting really sleepy” while staring at moving objects, in reality, she describes it as “a clinical sensation.”
“It’s a soft protocol, and a lot of people are surprised at how much it feels like they’ve just had a nice little nap,” she said.
“Patients wake up feeling so refreshed and are amazed that they still feel like themselves. They don’t have certain cravings,” she added.
“They feel really good. In real life, clients walk away afterwards and process things differently.”
She also uses a zero gravity chair so patients don’t feel their bodies, and is always very clear about what she’s working on as she explains the protocol in a conscious way.
“It’s really a very beautiful melody that makes you fall asleep,” she said.
“There is nothing that your subconscious mind can’t move and guide you to move it better,” she added.
“There is nothing about me that I can’t control. It’s like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Everything I have, I’ve had for a long time.”
“The end goal is to feel like you have complete autonomy over everything that happens to you, externally or internally.
“We tend to give up a lot of power. The best thing about what I do is I treat the person, not the problem.”
Social Media Shaming
She also blames social media for causing many to judge themselves, a theme she discusses in her book.
“We’re in such an interesting time in our lives where we get to see everyone’s business play out on screen, whether it’s Instagram or other platforms,” she said.
“We have lost our sense of judgement in what is good for us, and when we see the performance of others, we are constantly contrasting it,” she added.
“The visibility of everyone’s inner lives and personal lives has really changed.”
Kim has also recently published a new book about how to tap into our “inner mind power”, available now on Amazon.
