BOISE – Elementary school students in Idaho will once again have the opportunity to access a variety of fresh fruit and vegetable options through USDA’s 2025 Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). Schools are invited to apply for program funding now.
This program gives students the opportunity to try fruits and vegetables that are not otherwise available. It is administered by the Idaho Department of Education’s Division of Child Nutrition Programs. To be eligible for program funding, schools must meet the following criteria:
Must be in elementary school (grades 1 through 6). Operates the National School Lunch Program. At least 50 percent of registered students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Please submit a complete application including a signed supporting certificate.
Successful applicants will receive a grant to implement the FFVP program from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. Schools are awarded between $50 and $75 per student per grade level to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. All grants awarded are dependent on available USDA funds.
Participating schools can use the funds to ensure students have access to free fresh fruit and vegetables during school hours. Over the past few years, schools have used funding to provide students with staple fruits and vegetables, as well as unusual options they might not normally encounter.
