I gave the viral energy healing trend a try in hopes of confirming my suspicions that “Spinal Energetics” with Dr. Sarah Jane Perry is yet another overhyped social media fad. I did.
I was wrong. I lay on the table and within minutes turned into a snot-covered, sobbing mess.
Energy healing is a form of alternative medicine based on the idea that vibrations flow through the human body.
Healers with practices such as Reiki claim to use the body’s own energy sources to “solve” problems from the inside out and break down emotional blocks.
They claim that removing these blocks from the body can not only resolve physical problems such as weight gain, migraines, and pain, but also reduce emotional trauma.
I found Dr. Sarah’s method of energy healing (which has gone viral) to be completely shocking.
I first heard about Dr Sarah, a 37-year-old medical practitioner from Melbourne, on TikTok.
Her viral videos showed up in my Explore section, but I ignored them as TikTok tricks.
Her video shows patients moving around the table as if controlled by invisible threads.
That’s why I thought, “It must be a fake.”
And I silently nod at the comments on the video claiming that the patients must be actors who squirm around, clicking and inflating for handsome paychecks.
Then I was invited to try it myself.
I left a little over an hour later, tired but light, with a mild headache and a tear-stained face.
My healing experience with spinal energy therapy
Even now, a month later, every time she moves her hands around my body, clicks, whistles, encourages, releases, it’s like something inside me has changed. I feel it.
I’m a very energetic and optimistic woman, so I rarely cry.
Especially in front of strangers or in a professional setting.
I expected at most mild cramps, like I’ve experienced during Reiki sessions over the years.
Everything unfolded so quickly.
She pressed play on her phone and meditative music began to fill the room.
I felt myself falling into a dream-like state, My thoughts slowed and I was left sitting in complete silence, suspended somewhere between sleep and wakefulness.
I was intrigued when the muscles in my butt, jaw, and throat began to tweak on their own in the first few seconds of the doctor’s procedure.
I was “awake” enough to register the nudge, but couldn’t stop it.
After a few minutes, the music started to pick up and I felt my bottom lip start to quiver.
Then Dr. Sarah’s voice quietly told us to go deeper, and just as it started my lips stopped trembling.
I was face down on the bed so I couldn’t see what she was doing.
But the video I filmed of the process showed her clicking her fingers and taking short breaths toward and away from me.
The music started to pick up and I started screaming out of my eyes.
As Dr. Sarah moved her hands over my body, I felt the need to straighten up and force out more tears somehow.
They flowed out of me constantly and I moved into a sitting position.
I could barely understand how I managed to sit with my legs straddling my legs as I went back and forth between realities.
Then the healer was behind me, begging me to let go. I felt myself moving into her arms, leaning over her legs and letting her hug me.
Everything changed because I trusted her to protect me. Laughter poured out of me.
It started with a nervous, distinctive chuckle that grew louder until I almost screamed.
It felt like it was starting to spiral out of control in my head before it finally came out of my mouth.
I remember bending over and feeling very dizzy before coming back to reality.
Since then, I felt like I “awoke” in the window.
Dr. Sarah told me to not bend over when I’m sad, but to breathe in my sadness and embrace it with pride.
The sadness I had been feeling just a moment ago was wiped away by the sound of laughter. But the sadness, anxiety, and frustration remained.
Dr. Sarah revealed that I was trying to release some very old feelings that I had accumulated throughout my life.
She warned me that I would feel like running a marathon the next day.
And I did.
In fact, my abs were sore for days afterwards. I could barely laugh without remembering that they were there and stressed out.
But there was something strange about it.
The pain I felt all over my body when I was 32 years old had disappeared.
The pain I had in my back from playing too many games of breaking eggs on the trampoline with my kids disappeared.
And as the days went on, I felt better, more refreshed, and more able to tolerate the disappointments, frustrations, and exhausting moments that came my way.
Spinal energetics is a relatively new treatment, Dr. Sara explained.
She is a chiropractor with a background in psychology and developed it during the coronavirus lockdown.
She became interested in energy healing many years ago, which led her to become a chiropractor.
Dr. Sarah told FEMAIL that she had a great experience healing minor injuries without applying physical pressure, and that she began exploring the connection between body and mind.
“Spinal energetics often goes beyond ‘treating’ symptoms and focuses on addressing the root cause of an emotional or physical problem. “By digging into the underlying reasons and exploring the body’s reactions,” she explained.
“By addressing the root cause, we recognize that symptoms are often a manifestation of a deeper experience, rather than simply alleviating surface-level discomfort.”
She says we have “forgotten” how to heal using these methods, that our bodies naturally “know” what to do, and just do it. Just stop blocking them.
Before working on my treatment, Dr. Sarah poked and prodded me and told me where the trauma was in my body and what it was related to.
Some resonated with me, some didn’t.
Then she did a pulling action on her arm. She warned that this can be excruciating and often feels like an electric shock.
She explained that this shows how close we are to flooding ourselves with negativity.
I hardly felt anything, but she called it “pretty unusual” and indicated that I had been working on myself for a while.
Dr. Sarah also pointed out that this was a pleasant surprise for her considering how tense I was in certain parts of my body.
This healer now teaches others how to use his techniques with the goal of helping people around the world connect with themselves and heal from the inside out.
After such a profound experience, I would definitely book further sessions of my own volition and would also recommend to my family and friends.
