I’ve typed “how to grow hair” into Google a bunch of times, and if you’ve ever accidentally cut your hair too short (which is probably why you ended up reading this article), my hair grows. Really So I decided to try Viviscal for hair growth and write this review, hoping to help others who are going through a similar experience.
About a year ago, I noticed that my hair was no longer growing as steadily as it did when I was younger. It was thinner but remained short. It just didn’t seem to be growing any more. For a while, I didn’t feel like cutting it. Feeling a bit defeated, I finally decided to try Viviscal Hair Growth Treatment for 9 months to see what would happen.
Keep reading to find out the results of my experiment.
How hair growth products work
Like other hair, skin, and nail supplements you’ve probably already tried, Viviscal supplements contain biotin. But as we mentioned above, they also contain other ingredients like vitamin C, apple extract, keratin, and a marine complex called AminoMar (the Viviscal Professional line contains more of this ingredient than the Viviscal Extra Strength version). These ingredients help strengthen hair and promote growth.
At first, I thought this hair growth product was something the Kardashians would promote on Instagram. The bottle said it would “nourish” hair follicles and “stimulate growth from the inside out.” I wasn’t convinced, but I knew I’d be heading back to the salon for a haircut in six months (because this kind of maintenance is essential for healthy hair growth) and, if the potion worked, my hair would be longer and thicker by then.
How much does Viviscal cost?
Buying a box of Viviscal Professional supplements at the salon costs $60 for a one-month supply of tablets to be taken twice daily. My stylist told me it would take at least three months to see results. I then found the tablets on Amazon for less (about $30 for a one-month supply), but they’re not the professional strength. The company says the professional version is more expensive because it contains a higher dose of its proprietary marine complex AminoMarC, as well as additional ingredients like apple extract, L-cysteine, and L-methionine, which means you might see results sooner.
result
About two and a half months into taking the hair growth supplement twice a day, I started to notice a difference. When I put my hair in a ponytail, it felt like it was thicker. I also noticed that after my usual morning shower and styling, my hair looked better and more lively. So, I persisted and kept buying the supplement every time I ran out.
After 9 months of taking the supplements, I noticed a change. But this drug is not a miracle worker. The hair at the back has changed the most in length. I think this is because when you straighten your hair, you prioritize the front hair, so the hair around your face can withstand the heat better. Viviscal did not solve that problem.
But after months of my hair stopping just above my chest, it started growing further down my back no matter what I did. There’s no denying I’ve gained a few inches. I keep trimming my hair regularly so I’m sure that’s helping.
Final conclusion
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that consistency is key. If I forget to buy a new box or miss a few days of taking my medication, I quickly notice my hair thinning and it becomes harder to style. If I focus on sticking to my medication faithfully and continuing to take my dose twice a day, my hair will grow and feel and look fuller.
So, did these supplements give me the mermaid-meets-Rapunzel hair of my dreams? No. Did they make an immediate difference? Again, no. But if you’re willing to make a big decision for results that only you will notice, give them a try. When I first bought the box with my credit card, I thought to myself, “I’m going to cut my hair again in six months anyway. It would be great if I had a little more hair to cut. And at least in my case, I had a little more hair.”
