A while ago, I stopped using vitamin C in my skin care. It’s not because I thought it wasn’t effective. Quite the opposite, really. I was tired of having to throw away my vitamin C before I finished it. As you know, vitamin C is notoriously unstable. Still, it has a ton of really great benefits, including brightening skin, reducing age spots, and antioxidant properties. I like to think of it as a good mix of skin care routines.
Compared to other beauty editors and skincare enthusiasts, you might think my routine is pretty simple. I rarely use acids and retinol is not a regular thing for me, even though I know that my over 40 skin could benefit from both products. Actually, I focus on hydration. However, we do know that taking something like vitamin C on a regular basis may be able to eliminate problems such as age spots. So when the skincare brand learned that Medik8 had launched its new Super C Ferulic Serum ($74), she couldn’t help but wonder if it was time to go back (voice of Carrie Bradshaw).

What makes Super C Ferulic different is that it uses ethylated ascorbic acid (actually 30%) instead of L-ascorbic acid, which is the purest and most unstable form of vitamin C. That’s it. The modification of the L-ascorbic acid molecule makes the formula extremely stable, so it won’t lose its effectiveness when exposed to air, light, or heat. You can get all the benefits of vitamin C, including whitening, wrinkle reduction, and antioxidant properties, without worrying about throwing it away too soon. Super C Ferulic also contains other beneficial ingredients, including antioxidants such as ferulic acid, vitamin E, and turmeric root. These help fight signs of skin aging and discoloration and support overall healthy skin.
I knew my simple skincare lifestyle wouldn’t allow me to jump right back into a strict vitamin C routine, so I started slow. I applied Super C every other day in the morning after washing my face and before using my moisturizer and SPF. At first, I felt a little spiciness (a mild tingling sensation), but after the second use, it didn’t bother me anymore. After about a week, I noticed that the swelling had disappeared. As for my dark spots, I didn’t notice any difference, but I know it takes quite a while for the color to fade. Consumer research shows it took her four weeks to see further benefits, including reduced wrinkles and improved skin firmness. So I’m hoping to see even more great results after using this for a few more weeks.
Vitamin C, I thought it was over, but maybe our romance is being rekindled! If you, too, are tired of the unstable (vitamin C) life, try this Super C Ferulic.
