Andrea Young

The Liberty Worship Collective leads worship in congregations and the campus community.

“After this weekend, I can say that Liberty is a unique and amazing place. We attended Dr. Ritchie’s Family and Child Development class and he spent 15 minutes of his 50 minute class reading and discussing John 15 followed by a prayer. Amazing. I have never seen a school where faith and learning are so clearly integrated.”

– Elizabeth M., Aspiring LU Mom

  • Previous services are available on demand by downloading the LU Today mobile app and visiting the “Campus Community” page.
  • To tune in live with the campus community, follow the Liberty University Office of Spiritual Development on Facebook.

Growing as a Disciple of Christ through LU Shepherd

The LU Shepherd Office focuses on the spiritual needs of students, providing guidance, discipleship and soul care.

Eleven full-time LU Shepherds (five men, six women – one dedicated to student-athletes) provide pastoral care to Liberty students.

Each residence hall is staffed with two Resident Shepherds (RS), who are mentored directly by the LU Shepherd and focus on their fellow residence hall peers. Community Group Leaders (CGLs) are mentored directly by their residence hall RS and focus on small groups of students who meet weekly after Campus Community.

RSs and CGLs are trained in discipleship, spiritual formation, prayer, missions, and small group dynamics.

What do the shepherds do?

  • In addition to participating in all campus community events,…
    • Gather beforehand for prayer.
    • Afterwards, I meet with the students and pray.
    • Answer the call to the altar.
  • We offer chaplaincy services:
    • Resident shepherds and community group leaders interact with students during and after emergency department visits or when minor issues arise.
    • LU Shepherd visits students with serious health issues in the hospital.
    • LU Shepherd will be calling students and families who have been hospitalized or who have experienced a bereavement in the family.
  • We offer pastoral counseling and pre-marital counseling.
  • Meet with Students — Sometimes more than 1,400 students come through the LU Shepherds office in a single week. Students can schedule an appointment at the office or meet in person with an LU Shepherd on campus.
  • Coordinate 24/7 prayer on campus: During the semester, students sign up for a time slot to ensure that someone is always available to pray for university and student prayer requests 24/7.
